Art campus

The Art Campus develops projects that place art at the heart of the relationship between the environment and human beings. A true laboratory for innovation in education, the Art Campus is committed to constantly seeking new ways to raise awareness in a fun and sustainable way. Throughout the year, exhibitions and artist residencies are developed to offer citizens a complementary perspective on our relationship with the environment.

exhibitions since 2012

The Art Campus is all about art in all its forms. Whether visual or performing, art here serves the environmental cause. Drawing on the richness of the artistic world to nurture, in turn, a collective environmental awareness: that is the mission of the Art Campus.

15000

people made aware

By evoking emotions and sometimes creating a visual or emotional shock, art encourages citizens to question themselves and reflect on the impact of their lifestyle on the environment. Art facilitates understanding of the messages conveyed and effectively supports learning.

workshops and conferences

Each exhibition is designed to include one or more educational activities (workshops, lectures, artist residencies) that provide the public with detailed scientific knowledge in a fun and educational way.

The Art Campus,
a space where art rhymes with education

By offering viewers a fresh perspective and a sensitive approach to their relationship with the environment, Art Campus continues to use these artistic projects to position art as a medium and a means of changing behaviour. Without any boundaries, art becomes a weapon for raising awareness, a political weapon.

Since the programme was launched in 2012, several artists and collectives have collaborated with Surfrider Foundation, offering meaningful permanent and/or travelling exhibitions. Throughout the year, a space dedicated to art is open to the public at the association’s headquarters in Biarritz.

A true meeting place between two worlds, the Art Campus regularly offers workshops with artists, promoting environmental awareness through the development of creativity.

Much more than a local project, the Art Campus is beginning to expand across Europe by developing travelling exhibitions at various venues and specific events, such as conferences, festivals and museums.

EXHIBITION HIRE

And because Art Campus is committed to making art and knowledge accessible to all, the exhibitions have become travelling exhibitions. Museums, cultural or scientific spaces, and local authorities can therefore take advantage of these exhibitions to raise public awareness of the environmental issues affecting the oceans.

In France and Europe, these turnkey exhibitions are designed to suit as many venues and audiences as possible.

Educational activities are planned, communication and resource kits are provided, and organisational and logistical support is offered.

Artistic collaboration

The Art Campus collaborates with committed artists from a wide variety of backgrounds. Painting, sculpture, photography, literature, dance, theatre, cinema: no discipline is left out. Here, we see art as a means of conveying a message, giving meaning and stimulating reflection on environmental issues.

Collaborations can take different forms: artist residencies, exhibitions, support for reflection and project development.
