Our levers of action

Our main levers for action are participatory science (through the collection of data on waste during collections), lobbying, art, education, but also the mobilisation of scientific and legal expertise.

What are the main ways to take action
to protect the ocean?

Initiatives Océanes

Collection and monitoring
of data

Data collection and monitoring are crucial for Surfrider in the fight against water pollution. This information enables us to alert decision-makers and propose concrete actions to remedy the situation.

Lobbying

Surfrider conducts advocacy campaigns in France and Europe to combat plastic pollution and improve the quality of bathing water.

Education and Art

Art promotes awareness of the ecological emergency, complementing the acquisition of scientific knowledge. That is why Surfrider organises exhibitions and coordinates educational projects to raise awareness from an early age.

Scientific
and legal expertise

Surfrider takes samples to assess bathing water quality,
produces reports, provides expertise to public decision-makers, and takes legal action when necessary.

Local actions and litigation

Thanks to its actions in the field, the organisation has carried out nearly 70 successful interventions around the world, effectively combating projects that are harmful to the environment.
