Surfrider Foundation has developed an economic model structured around three fundamental principles: a balance of funding sources, the predominance of unrestricted funds and consistency between funding and activities.

The association favours a balanced diversification between private funding, public subsidies and public donations, which enables it to reduce financial risks and guarantee its independence from a single type of contributor.

Regular donations from the public are an essential part of this strategy, providing financial stability and autonomy while strengthening the relationship of trust with supporters.

Surfrider adopts a proactive approach, defining its strategic orientations internally according to the needs of protecting aquatic environments, before seeking financial partners consistent with its values.
This independence in the development of projects is accompanied by a rigorous analysis of the compatibility between the values of the partners and those of the association.

To ensure its resilience in the face of economic change, the organisation aims to maintain equity equivalent to a quarter of its annual budget. This balanced model, combining diversification, autonomy and coherence, enables Surfrider to perpetuate its activities while preserving its independence and its values for the protection of the Ocean.
