A global network serving the ocean
Since 2023, Surfrider Foundation Europe has been transforming its organisation towards an ambitious federal model, designed to consolidate and amplify its actions to protect the ocean across the continent. This strategic transformation has resulted in stronger support for the entities already established in Spain, Germany and the Netherlands, as well as the creation of a new structure in Portugal to complement the historical presence in France and Belgium.
Surfrider Foundation Europe now relies on a decentralised organisation that is agile and deeply rooted in the territories, while maintaining a common vision and objectives that unify all the European entities.
The federal model favours the autonomy of the national entities, which develop their own initiatives adapted to specific local circumstances while remaining closely connected to the European headquarters.
This essential link between the national entities and the European headquarters guarantees the coherence of projects while enabling resources, expertise and campaigns to be pooled. This synergy considerably strengthens Surfrider’s ability to make the voice of the ocean heard at the highest level and to increase its impact within the Member States of the European Union, thereby making a significant contribution to both regional and international environmental issues.
Surfrider Foundation is present on five continents, with active entities in Europe, the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, Argentina, Morocco and Senegal.
This international presence is a unique strength for the organisation: it allows for the sharing of experiences, best practices and innovations between different regions of the world, while adapting solutions to local realities.
